For those who don’t know me, my name is Brett and I’m a 20 year old student at the University of Exeter and on the 15th October I will be running Exeter’s very hilly half marathon, the Great West Run. I write this with less than three weeks to go, sleep-deprived and without having really got into a training routine. So this could be quite an endurance endeavour, which I’m not looking forward to (reminder- hills). If you’re wondering why I would do this, the answer is very simple. My hour and three quarters (hopefully less) hours of pain and endurance are done to raise money for the amazing charity Stand By Me to improve the lives of the children they work with in Colombia.
Guacamayal, Colombia, is a forgotten town where a lack of industry or employment opportunities along with a poor standard of education traps families in an endless cycle of poverty. Tragically, abuse and violence are rife and many children experience terrible things. The Stand by Me Emmanuel Care Centre is a hub exploding with colour run by committed staff determined to bring joy to this forgotten corner of Colombia. Children receive nutritious food, medical care and tutoring. It is a safe environment where our resident psychologist is at hand to listen, support and guide children and parents as they overcome trauma, helping children rise above their circumstances and reach their full potential.
I am aiming to raise £300 so any donations would be much appreciated. Thank you and God Bless you
Brett :)
