So many children around the world have no bed to sleep on and spend every night lying on the floor. As part of this ‘Stand by Me’ appeal, I, like many, am spending a week sleeping on the floor to raise money to provide children with a better night's sleep.
I am sort of cheating because I am lying on a carpet with underlay, and have a pillow - not the dried mud or concrete that is the bed for so many children! I have been privileged to meet many such families when working in Kenya with Open Arms International, which is now a part of Stand By Me.
A good night’s sleep for children helps them to thrive in school and make the most of their lives. Every £140 raised will provide a bed for a family, improving their living conditions and quality of life.
If you would like to support this project, I would be really grateful, but most of all will be the many children and families we hope to help. I am looking forward to being able to send you pictures of some of the families with their beds when they receive them.
Stand by Me rescues kids from extreme circumstances, then provides the care, love and attention they need to thrive. We care for over 4,000 kids across the world, from Myanmar to Colombia to Ethiopia. No two are the same, some are orphaned, some abandoned, some abused or living in extreme poverty, so we take care to meet each of their individual needs from food and healthcare, to loving parents and quality education, enabling them to reach their potential, stand on their own two feet and become who they were created to be.
February on the Floor is a fundraising event designed to make a significant difference to the lives of our amazing Stand by Me children. We ask people to sleep on the floor for a week of their choice in February and raise money to help provide families with a bed, improve their living conditions and give them a great night's sleep.
