A week into my adventure in Ethiopia, I thought it was about time for an update! As this is my third time travelling to Ethiopia on behalf of the amazing charity Stand By Me, I was really looking forward to returning to the infamous town of Bekoji, and seeing the work that the charity had managed to carry out over the past 5 years since I’d last been in the town. Throughout this past week, I have been so incredibly blessed to have seen the great developments that have been made to the school through donations and the work of Stand By Me, including a new computer lab to support the students’ research and a kitchen to develop the domestic skills of the kids living in the children’s home. However, I have been even more touched by the phenomenal kids who attend the school and have been given the hope of a future through the work of the charity. Hearing each child tell their dreams of becoming a teacher, engineer, pilot, doctor, police person, etc, I feel so inspired to try to continue to support the futures they dream of.

Therefore, I have a favour to ask. As the new school year approaches, the need for new school uniforms for the children of Bethany School, Bekoji becomes apparent. The school uniform provides the children with a sense of belonging and allows them to have pride in their education. A new complete school uniform for a Stand By Me child costs only £15, so if you’re in a position to, please donate towards this very worthy cause. £8 is also enough to buy a new pair of shoes for a child, proving extremely beneficial for children who walk miles each day to get to and from school. Therefore, whatever you can give, you will be comforted in knowing that it all makes a difference in the lives of the future world changers of Bekoji, Ethiopia.
