Ariadna lives with her mum, dad and three younger siblings. Her dad works as a tradesman for a local company on minimum wage and her mum is a housewife and student. Ariadna's mum is currently finishing her high school studies. The family have two meals a day when they have enough income. They find it difficult to cover all the family's needs and live in a house which belongs to her dad's family so her grandfather and another relative also live with them. Ariadna shares her bedroom with her parents and all the siblings share a bed. Their home has electricity and gas but they do not have clean water and instead wash their clothes at a relative's home. They have an outside bathroom which is in a poor condition. Ariadna has enough clothes, but just one pair of shoes.
Ariadna enjoys going to school and her favourite subject is Spanish. She enjoys learning to read and meeting new friends. She is a funny, kind and charismatic child who enjoys sharing with her friends. In her free time she likes to read, draw, colour, watch TV, and spend time with her siblings. She loves to play with teddy bears. Her favourite colour is pink, and her favourite sport is skating. She likes to eat coconut rice with meat. Ariadna sometimes attends a Christian church with her family.
With sponsorship provision Ariadna can attend the Stand by Me Care Centre where she can receive nutritious food and vital educational support. She is excited to have a sponsor to receive letters from to read and see their photos. When she grows up she wants to be a doctor or a vet.
The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.
We established a care centre in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care centre eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.
88% of your donation will be used to directly provide the best care possible for Ariadna. We'll use the remaining 12% to support the work of Stand by Me and find a sponsor for the next child.
When you sponsor Ariadna you will receive a pack in the post with his story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about his/her progress, a new photo and at least one communication from him/her.
We know our kids love to receive your letters and write back so we encourage you to write as many letters as you like, along with photos and birthday gifts to develop a genuine relationship.
Ask us anything. We’ve helped sponsors change 1000s of kids’ lives, and we know it can be a big decision. We’re here to help you every step of the way.
