Meet Cristian

Aged 6, Colombia

Cristian lives with his parents and siblings. His mum and dad are both working but on a very low income which does not cover all the daily needs of the family. Their humble home has one bedroom, and an area which is the living room and kitchen. They are doing work on the home to improve things, but there is currently little by way of furniture. Cristian has lived in the same town all his life and he likes it, especially being by the river. His mum hopes to study and find a better job to provide for her family. The family are so pleased that Cristian can be part of our Emmanuel Care Centre, as here he is able to receive academic support and nutritious food. He is able to join in with a varied programme and meet friends. He will also be able to enjoy the experience of being personally sponsored. Cristian loves math and enjoys school where he learns and plays. He is a cheerful and loving young boy. He’d like to be a chef one day as he loves to help to cook. He also likes to do painting, play with toy cars, and loves football. His favourite things to eat is beef with potatoes.

Where Cristian lives

The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.

We established a care centre in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care centre eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.

How your donation is used

88% of your donation will be used to directly provide the best care possible for Cristian. We'll use the remaining 12% to support the work of Stand by Me and find a sponsor for the next child.

What you receive

When you sponsor Cristian you will receive a pack in the post with his story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about his/her progress, a new photo and at least one communication from him/her.

Real relationship

We know our kids love to receive your letters and write back so we encourage you to write as many letters as you like, along with photos and birthday gifts to develop a genuine relationship.
