Meet Coral

Dominican Republic

Coral lives with her mum in a rented house. Her grandmother helps to pay for the rent as Coral's mum is single and unemployed. The financial situation is difficult and Coral's mother is looking for a job. Coral is a healthy girl. She likes to participate in dramas, songs and dances and is happy about attending our school for food, healthcare, family support and a great education. Her mother is confident she will succeed as she is obedient and well behaved. Coral talks and communicates her ideas very well for a girl her age. She likes to help her mother at home doing the dishes and cleaning and organising things. A sponsor will greatly encourage Coral to follow her dreams.

Where Coral lives

Despite being a popular holiday destination, the Dominican Republic is a country steeped in poverty – major advances in the tourism industry have only added further to the divide between the rich and poor. High unemployment remains a serious problem and many children do not have access to a basic education or simple healthcare. There are over 220,000 orphaned children on this small island and thousands suffer from malnutrition.

The Eva Russell School provides free education to children from the poorest backgrounds. Without our support, these children would never attend school. Our children's village provides a loving family home for orphaned and at risk children.
