Meet Britany

Dominican Republic

Britany lives with her father, mother and siblings. They live in a house under construction with some rooms which have dirt floors and others which are cement. Due to her circumstances we accepted Britany into the care of Stand by Me where alongside providing a life changing quality education we make sure she is fed well and her health is taken care of.

Britany is a loving and kind girl.  She enjoys school and loves to participate in everything. It has been very difficult for her not being able to attend school because of the coronavirus quarantine as she misses her classmates and teacher. The family has remained healthy and each week they receive a food package from the school. Before the quarantine, she always did her homework. She likes to play tag with her classmates during breaktimes at school.

Where Britany lives

Despite being a popular holiday destination, the Dominican Republic is a country steeped in poverty – major advances in the tourism industry have only added further to the divide between the rich and poor. High unemployment remains a serious problem and many children do not have access to a basic education or simple healthcare. There are over 220,000 orphaned children on this small island and thousands suffer from malnutrition.

The Eva Russell School provides free education to children from the poorest backgrounds. Without our support, these children would never attend school. Our children's village provides a loving family home for orphaned and at risk children.
