Meet Sena

Ethiopia

Sena lives with her father and step-mother.   Her father re-married after Sena's mother died and they are living together in a humble hut.  Sena's nick name is Konche. She is a brave little girl.

When we met them they were living in very poor conditions with no bed or mattress but sleeping on the mud floor. They have no house furniture at all. Sena had nothing to wear on her feet and had a desperate shortage of clean water. They collect their water from the nearby river. Sena's father sells fruit in the local market but he receives a very low income. He earns less than £1 per day and can't afford to fulfil Sena's basic needs. Most of the time, this family were only having one meal a day.  We gladly accepted Sena into the care of our Abdi Academy for help and support with her education, food, clothes, shoes and health care.

Where Sena lives

Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in the world. Famine, HIV/Aids and extreme poverty have resulted in millions of orphans and a life of hardship for the majority of its population. Nearly one million children are orphaned as a result of HIV/Aids. A lack of investment in education and a high dependency on child labour has left five million children without access to an education. Educational opportunities for girls are lower than boys as they are expected to do domestic work or marry at an early age.

Our two schools, the Bethany School and the Abdi Academy are today providing the poorest children with a quality education, daily food, health care and family support. Our Children’s Village has two family homes which care for orphaned and at risk children.
