Meet Adelina

Aged 10, Romania

Adelina lives with her parents and her older sister. The family lives in a 3-bedroom house with running water but no indoor bathroom. Her father is working in construction in a nearby city and comes home on weekends. They keep chickens and a small vegetable garden, which provides them with some food.

At the request of her parents Adelina has joined the Stand by Me programme, where with sponsorship provision she has the opportunity of educational support to enable her to thrive in the future.

Adelina is good at mathematics. She is a friendly child and likes to ride her bike and play football. She also loves wrestling, especially with her dog.

Where Adelina lives

Even as a member of the European Union, Romania still suffers huge corruption and many families live in conditions that fall below the poverty line. A corrupt educational system has meant that a good education is unattainable for many children. Thousands of young adults are suffering the effects of growing up in desperately underfunded state orphanages, traumatised by the dirty conditions and undignified treatment.

Our Denisa Day Care Centre is providing free education, daily food and family support to children who are trapped in poverty and illiteracy. Our children's home provides a loving family to rescued girls who are growing into confident young women.
