Meet Brian

Aged 6, Colombia

Brian lives with his mum and his step-father. His mum sometimes does casual work but dreams of having a more stable job in the banana plantation as a supervisor. Brian’s stepfather labours on a farm but earns less than the minimum wage. Brian has a brother, but he lives elsewhere. Brian’s grandfather gives a little support when he can, but this family find it difficult to cover their daily needs. Their rented home is in need of quite a lot of work, and it is not the most secure. They collect their water from a well.

By being part of our Emmanuel Care Centre, and the sponsorship programme, Brian will be able to receive nutritious daily meals, help with his studies, and health checks, along with spiritual and emotional support. He will also have the opportunity to be involved in many activities which will not only be fun for him but will help him to develop and grow in different aspects of his life.

Brian enjoys attending school and especially likes math. He is a loving, kind, happy, intelligent and attentive boy. He loves to paint, listen to stories, watch cartoons and play football with his friends, and at home he likes to help with picking up the rubbish and organizing things.

Where Brian lives

The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.

We established a care center in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care center eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.
