Meet Dayler

Aged 8, Colombia

Dayler lives with his parents and his two siblings. His dad does various trades at a farm and his mom is a housewife, but they find it difficult to cover all the family needs. The family live in a home with proper walls and flooring and a bathroom and kitchen. While they have electricity and gas, they do not have clean water.

Dayler enjoys going to school because he likes to learn new things and to draw. His favorite subject is math. Dayler is a funny and friendly child. In his free time, Dayler enjoys playing with dinosaurs, watching TV and playing with his friends. His favourite color is blue, and his favorite foods are soup and chicken with rice. He sometimes attends a Christian church with his family.

Dayler enjoys coming to the Stand by Me Care Center where with sponsorship help, he can receive nutritious food and educational support. Dayler's brother is also part of the Care Centre and his parents have seen the positive impact this has had on his life and they want the same for Dayler. When he grows up Dayler would like to be a policeman, so he can help people.

Where Dayler lives

The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.

We established a care center in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care center eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.
