Emily lives with her mom, dad, her older brothers, and her twin Emmanuel. Her dad works on a farm and her mum works cleaning in a health center. They both earn the minimum wage. Her parents find it difficult to cover all the family needs. They live in a house, but it has a problem with the pipes, so they sometimes use an improvised bathroom in the backyard. The family have electricity and gas, but they do not have clean water.
By being accepted into the program at the Emmanuel Care Centre and through sponsorship provision, Emily will receive the help she needs, with nutritious meals, access to healthcare, and vital educational and psychological support. Emily enjoys coming to learn and play with her friends. Emily enjoys going to school, because she likes to learn new things, and loves the classes. She is lively, creative, respectful, smart, loving, well-behaved and attentive. Her favorite subject is math, because she likes adding.
Emily enjoys making crafts, drawing, coloring, writing, playing, and watching videos. Her favorite toy is kitchen accessories, and her favorite sport is football. She enjoys eating spaghetti. She goes to a church from time to time with her family. When she grows up Emily would like to be a doctor.
The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.
We established a care center in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care center eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.
When you sponsor Emily you will receive a pack in the post with her story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about her progress, a new photo and at least one communication from her.
We know our kids love to receive your emails and write back so we encourage you to write as many emails as you like, along with photos and birthday gifts to develop a genuine relationship.
Ask us anything. We’ve helped sponsors change 1000s of kids’ lives, and we know it can be a big decision. We’re here to help you every step of the way.
