Meet Natali

Aged 9, Colombia

Natali lives with her parents and her brother. Her dad does various trades on a farm and earns depending on their production. Her mom is a housewife and has some struggles with her health due to an underlying illness. The family find it difficult to cover all their needs. They live in a single room house which belongs to her grandparents. It has a bathroom outside. They have electricity and gas in a tank, but they do not have clean water. The family all sleep in this one room and share a bed.

By being accepted into the program at the Emmanuel Care Centre and through sponsorship provision, Natali will receive the help she needs, benefitting from nutritious meals, access to healthcare, and vital educational and psychological support. Natali enjoys coming to share time with her friends and eat delicious food. Natali enjoys going to school, because she likes to learn new things, and have fun with her friends. She is happy, cooperative, well-behaved, studious, friendly, kind, smart and empathetic. Her favorite subject is natural science, because she likes nature.

Natali enjoys drawing, coloring, playing with dolls and making clothes for her dolls. At home she helps by watering the plants and sweeping the floor. Her favorite toy is her doll named Lili. She likes purple and fuchsia colors, and she likes to eat vermicelli rice with chicken or pork stews. Natali goes to church, and she loves singing and participating in role-plays. When she grows up, she would like to be a doctor.

Where Natali lives

The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.

We established a care center in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care center eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.
