Linet lives with her mother and four siblings in a small mud house lent to them that is built by a river bed. Linet's mother walks as far as eight kilometres from their home in search of charcoal to sell in order to earn an income to feed her household.
The family fetch their water from the nearby river. They do not have a toilet in their home but sometimes use a neighbour's toilet. Their house is just one room and their kitchen is in the open air and made up of three stones to cook on. As that is outside, whenever it rains the family are not able to cook. They have used a bed sheet to separate the sleeping area from the living area.
By being part of the Stand by Me sponsorship programme, Linet can access a quality education, nutritious meals and other support.
Linet is quite shy, but very active and she loves coming to school and learning Kiswahili and doing sports. She also loves going to church and participating in Sunday school. She likes playing hide and seek with her friends and helping her mother with the household chores. She would like to be a teacher when she grows up.
The Open Arms Village was founded in 2006 to meet the immediate needs of orphaned and abandoned children in western Kenya who were suffering from a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. After the 2008 political violence left thousands of children orphaned, abandoned and homeless, the project grew to support more children. Today, the Open Arms Village is now home to over 150 children with 10 purpose-built family homes and the Open Arm Academy is educating children and giving them a hopeful future.
When you sponsor Linet you will receive a pack in the post with her story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about her progress, a new photo and at least one communication from her.
