Davis lives happily with his brother, father, and step-mother in a rented one room house. The house has been divided into two using bedsheets to separate the rooms. The family use one side to sleep in and the other side is their living room and kitchen area. They, along with three other neighboring homes, share a pit latrine and one bathroom. They fetch their water from a nearby well, which they then boil before drinking. Davis’s father works and is able to provide a certain amount for his family, but he does not earn enough to fully cover their needs including the children’s school fees.
Davis is now part of the Stand by Me sponsorship program, where with support he can access a good education, nutritious meals, and other practical and material help.
Davis loves to play and run. He loves school and has made friends. He is always wearing a big smile and is such a kind-hearted boy. He says that he would like to be a pilot when he grows up and will make sure that people reach their destination safely.
The Open Arms Village was founded in 2006 to meet the immediate needs of orphaned and abandoned children in western Kenya who were suffering from a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. After the 2008 political violence left thousands of children orphaned, abandoned and homeless, the project grew to support more children. Today, the Open Arms Village is now home to over 150 children with 10 purpose-built family homes and the Open Arm Academy is educating children and giving them a hopeful future.
When you sponsor Davis you will receive a pack in the post with his story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about his progress, a new photo and at least one communication from him.
