Five-year-old Abigael lives with her parents and three siblings in a small house with two rooms, one is used as a bedroom shared between Abigael, her parents and her sisters while her brother sleeps in a neighbor’s room since there isn’t space for him.
Her father is a casual laborer. During the harvest season, he works on farms, harvesting maize. In between the seasons, he will do any available jobs so that he can feed his family.
To ensure Abigael could attend school and learn, we gave her a place at our Open Arms Academy in January where Abigael eagerly receives a warm, nourishing meal to start her day. This opportunity is easing the burden on her parents and is providing the support she needs to learn, grow and thrive.
At Stand by Me, just 78 cents provides a complete meal for one child like Abigael. We care for 330 children just like her at our school and your generosity can fill not just one place at the table, but many, turning ordinary moments into full and hopeful days for children who need it most.
