Meet Dilver

Aged 9, Colombia

Dilver lives with his mum, dad, and siblings. His dad is a plumber but on a minimum wage, and his mum looks after the family and their rented home. It is not easy for them to cover their basic living expenses, and the home needs some repair. They sometimes bathe and also do their washing in the local river and do not have drinking water at home so have to buy it. Dilver has been accepted into the care centre sponsorship programme so that he can have the opportunity of being supported with his educational needs, along with extra nutrition and other help which will come with the blessing of sponsorship. Dilver loves Spanish and is doing well in this subject at school. He is very active and likes to help others. He is a kind and curious young boy. When he grows up, he would like to be a football player. He enjoys cars and robots! His favourite food is fish with coconut rice. Dilver enjoys going to church with his family.

Where Dilver lives

The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.

We established a care centre in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care centre eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.
