Meet Diosimar

Aged 9, Colombia

Diosimar lives with his parents and sister, in a one-bed home, which has no kitchen. They cook on a stove in the bedroom and have no clean water. Diosimar’s dad works as a security guard for less than the minimum wage and his mum takes care of the family and home. In these conditions things are challenging for them. Diosimar’s family are delighted that by joining the Stand by Me sponsorship programme, Diosimar will be able to attend our care centre and receive academic support as well as nutritious meals, and many blessings and benefits that come through having personal sponsorship. Diosimar enjoys learning Spanish and likes to read. He loves crafts and drawing and likes being at school with his friends. He is a happy, intelligent, loving and talkative young boy. When he grows up, he’d like to be a football player.

Where Diosimar lives

The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.

We established a care centre in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care centre eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.
