Meet Alvaro

Colombia

Alvaro is the youngest in the Rangel family. He has been going to Centro Educativo Crsitiano School since Spring 2013.

Alvaro's parents have separated.  He and his family live in their own home, which is made of block and bamboo, with a tin roof. The house has bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen but they have no bathroom, they have to use their neighbour's bathroom. They don't have a water supply at home, so they have to get the water for cooking and washing from the river.

Without support,  Alvaro's family would not be able to afford to send him to school.

His favourite sport is football.  In his leisure time Alvaro likes to make creative things. Alvaro attends a Christian church with his family.

Where Alvaro lives

The gulf between the haves and the have-nots in Colombia is alarming. Decades of civil war and conflict have resulted in a country plagued by violence and murder. For six million children deep in poverty, a lack of educational opportunities and malnutrition is an everyday reality. Children have severe health issues worsened due to not being able to afford medical treatment. Many children suffer from psychological problems as a result of neglect, abuse and violence experienced in their homes.

We established a care centre in 2015 to support families through educational provision, meals, counselling, training and housing support. Every day, our children come to our care centre eager to learn, play and receive emotional support.
