Meet Anderson

Dominican Republic

Anderson lives with his mother, father and brother in a house that belongs to a relative as they cannot afford their own house. His father fixes motorcycles but he does not have a steady income. Anderson's mum works at a beauty parlour three days a week to earn some money for the family. Anderson attended a public preschool programme but it closed down and his family couldn't afford to send him to school elsewhere. Anderson has now joined our programme and as a result, he and his family will receive help. At school he is enjoying learning how to relate to other children and loves to play sports. He is a healthy and active boy.

Where Anderson lives

Despite being a popular holiday destination, the Dominican Republic is a country steeped in poverty – major advances in the tourism industry have only added further to the divide between the rich and poor. High unemployment remains a serious problem and many children do not have access to a basic education or simple healthcare. There are over 220,000 orphaned children on this small island and thousands suffer from malnutrition.

The Eva Russell School provides free education to children from the poorest backgrounds. Without our support, these children would never attend school. Our children's village provides a loving family home for orphaned and at risk children.
