Meet Andrei

Aged 8, Romania

Andrei lives with his father and older brother in a house with 2 bedrooms. His brother is studying at a college in a nearby town and comes home at the weekends. Andrei's father works in a factory nearby. Andrei also has an older sister who works in town as a hairdresser and is recently married. Sadly Andrei's mother died about a year ago, and so his sister takes care of Andrei and his brother while their father is away with work. Both of Andrei's siblings were enrolled at the Care Centre programme in the past. The family has again turned to Stand by Me for help because Andrei needs supervision and help with his studying while his brother is at college and his sister is working.

As part of the Care Centre programme, and with the provision of sponsorship, Andrei will receive educational support to help him make progress. He will also receive nutritious food, access to healthcare, and the opportunity to take part in activities and experiences that will help him to grow and develop.

Andrei is curious and talkative. He is deeply attached to his sister and greatly misses his mother. He enjoys being here and has made a few friends. Andrei likes to colour and draw, and to play with Lego pieces, but his favourite activity is enjoying the outside play area.

Where Andrei lives

Even as a member of the European Union, Romania still suffers huge corruption and many families live in conditions that fall below the poverty line. A corrupt educational system has meant that a good education is unattainable for many children. Thousands of young adults are suffering the effects of growing up in desperately underfunded state orphanages, traumatised by the dirty conditions and undignified treatment.

Our Denisa Day Care Centre is providing free education, daily food and family support to children who are trapped in poverty and illiteracy. Our children's home provides a loving family to rescued girls who are growing into confident young women.

How your donation is used

92% of your donation will be used to directly provide the best care possible for Andrei. We’ll use the remaining 8% to support the work of Stand by Me and find a sponsor for the next child.

What you receive

When you sponsor Andrei you will receive a pack in the post with his story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about his/her progress, a new photo and at least one communication from him/her.

Real relationship

We know our kids love to receive your letters and write back so we encourage you to write as many letters as you like, along with photos and birthday gifts to develop a genuine relationship.
