Faith lives with her mom and step-father and two younger brothers in two single room mud thatch houses. One is used as the living room and parent's bedroom with a bedsheet separating the areas. The other is used as an outside kitchen space. Faith and her brothers sleep at their grandmother's house just next to them.
The family depend on day to day casual labor for income, which can be unstable. They prioritize food for the children and grow maize on a small piece of land for household consumption. Despite the challenges, the family has managed to keep the children in school and meet their basic needs.
Faith is well mannered. She enjoys playing soccer and likes going to school. Her favorite subjects are math and languages. She enjoys assisting her mom with household chores after school and during the school holidays. Faith also enjoys accompanying her to the farm. With additional support, Faith will be able to continue her education, access the appropriate learning materials and work towards achieving her dream of becoming a doctor.
Your sponsorship will provide Faith with a quality education, daily meals and will resource our care programmes to meet her individual needs.
The Open Arms Village was founded in 2006 to meet the immediate needs of orphaned and abandoned children in western Kenya who were suffering from a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. After the 2008 political violence left thousands of children orphaned, abandoned and homeless, the project grew to support more children. Today, the Open Arms Village is now home to over 150 children with 10 purpose-built family homes and the Open Arm Academy is educating children and giving them a hopeful future.
When you sponsor Faith you will receive a pack in the post with her story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about her progress, a new photo and at least one communication from her.
