Meet Faith

Aged 12, Kenya

Faith's parents sadly separated due to family wrangles. Faith's mother looks after her three children alone with no support from Faith's father. When her mother works away from home, Faith stays with her grandmother. Faith loves doing house chores and other light duties while at home.

The family grow crops like beans and maize for their consumption and they have one cow that they milk. They have no reliable source of income. Faith's grandmother is very hardworking and does menial jobs to support the family with their basic needs and pay the tuition fees for the other children.

Faith is very jovial and can mingle with her peers easily. She has a golden talent in athletics and hopes to be an international athlete in the future. Her mother has been encouraging her to work hard so that she can achieve her dreams and also get a better life. With sponsorship provision, she can access the support she needs.

Where Faith lives

The Open Arms Village was founded in 2006 to meet the immediate needs of orphaned and abandoned children in western Kenya who were suffering from a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. After the 2008 political violence left thousands of children orphaned, abandoned and homeless, the project grew to support more children. Today, the Open Arms Village is now home to over 150 children with 10 purpose-built family homes and the Open Arm Academy is educating children and giving them a hopeful future.
