Meet Victor

Aged 10, Kenya

Victor is the youngest from a family of three children. He has a sister named Nicole and a brother named Emmanuel. He lives with his mother and siblings in a small village in challenging conditions. His mother is a single parent who works very hard to take care of her children. She does not have a permanent job and depends on casual labour to earn money for food, rent, and school needs. Life has not been easy for the family.

Despite the hardships, Victor’s mother has remained determined to keep her children in school. Early in the morning, she leaves home to look for any available work such as washing clothes for people, cleaning houses, or working on nearby farms. The little money she earns helps her provide basic needs for her children, although it is often not enough. At home, Victor helps his mother with household chores. He understands the struggles his mother goes through and wishes he could help her more.

Victor is a cheerful, respectful, and jovial boy who loves making others smile. He is loved by both his teachers and classmates because of his good behaviour and positive attitude. Victor enjoys mathematics and science. Victor dreams of becoming an engineer when he grows up, but more importantly, he wants to support his mother and lift his family out of poverty. Through sponsorship provision, he can attend the Open Arms Academy and receive a quality education, healthy meals and medical care in a loving environment. He believes that through education, determination, and hard work, he will achieve his dream and give his family a better life.

Your sponsorship will provide Victor with a quality education, daily meals and will resource our care programmes to meet his individual needs.

Where Victor lives

The Open Arms Village was founded in 2006 to meet the immediate needs of orphaned and abandoned children in western Kenya who were suffering from a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. After the 2008 political violence left thousands of children orphaned, abandoned and homeless, the project grew to support more children. Today, the Open Arms Village is now home to over 150 children with 10 purpose-built family homes and the Open Arm Academy is educating children and giving them a hopeful future.
