Meet Daisy

Aged 6, Kenya

Daisy is a jovial girl and loves going to school. She enjoys learning and participating in class activities. She is young and not yet aware of her aspirations but her mother mentioned that Daisy always loves playing the role of a doctor in her games. Therefore, she might like to become a doctor in the future. She is the second born in a family of four children, two boys and two girls. She lives with her mother, who is a single parent, as her father left soon after she was born. Her mother had to leave her job to take care of her son who was born blind. He requires close attention and care, which made it difficult for Daisy's mother to continue working.

The family live in a rented two room house in challenging conditions. They use water from a borehole that is shared by a number of tenants and boil water before drinking to make it safe for consumption. Her mother continues to do her best to care for her.

Despite the challenges at home, Daisy remains a cheerful and happy girl. With sponsorship provision, Daisy will be able to continue her schooling, receive daily meals and support and be able to achieve her dreams.

Where Daisy lives

The Open Arms Village was founded in 2006 to meet the immediate needs of orphaned and abandoned children in western Kenya who were suffering from a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. After the 2008 political violence left thousands of children orphaned, abandoned and homeless, the project grew to support more children. Today, the Open Arms Village is now home to over 150 children with 10 purpose-built family homes and the Open Arm Academy is educating children and giving them a hopeful future.
