Carlos lives with his mother and his four sisters in a small house. Their home consists of one room that is made of mud, with an iron sheet roof. They have hung a bed sheet in the middle of the house to separate the bedroom from the living area. The family collect their water from a nearby river. Carlos' mother searches for charcoal to sell.
Understanding the needs of this family, Carlos was accepted onto the sponsorship programme, which enables him to receive the support he needs to thrive. He can receive a quality education, along with daily nutritious meals and other help.
Carlos loves school. He also loves to sing and dance. Carlos is passionate about drawing and he has filled his books with creative sketches. He really enjoys playing sports in his free time, especially football and running.
The Open Arms Village was founded in 2006 to meet the immediate needs of orphaned and abandoned children in western Kenya who were suffering from a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. After the 2008 political violence left thousands of children orphaned, abandoned and homeless, the project grew to support more children. Today, the Open Arms Village is now home to over 150 children with 10 purpose-built family homes and the Open Arm Academy is educating children and giving them a hopeful future.
When you sponsor Carlos you will receive a pack in the post with his story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about his progress, a new photo and at least one communication from him.
