Noel lives with his grandmother and his two older sisters. His mother had been very sick for many years and sadly passed away, leaving Noel’s grandmother as the sole provider. His father had left the family some time before. The family live in their own compound and have a well from where they fetch their water. Noel’s eldest sister has now finished college and will try and find work to also help support the family. In the meantime, their grandmother hires a piece of land to plant maize, to feed the family but also to sell.
By being part of the Stand by Me sponsorship programme, Noel can receive a good education, food, clothing and medical help.
Noel misses his mum so much. He loves to read and write and is happy to be able to go to school. He says that he will work hard so that he can become a doctor and treat people so that they are not in pain like his mother was. He also loves playing football with his neighbours and singing in his Sunday school class.
The Open Arms Village was founded in 2006 to meet the immediate needs of orphaned and abandoned children in western Kenya who were suffering from a wide variety of life-threatening diseases. After the 2008 political violence left thousands of children orphaned, abandoned and homeless, the project grew to support more children. Today, the Open Arms Village is now home to over 150 children with 10 purpose-built family homes and the Open Arm Academy is educating children and giving them a hopeful future.
When you sponsor Noel you will receive a pack in the post with his story and photo. Every year you will receive an update about his progress, a new photo and at least one communication from him.
We know our kids love to receive your emails and write back so we encourage you to write as many emails as you like, along with photos and birthday gifts to develop a genuine relationship.
