Instead of gifts for me for my 50th birthday, I would like to give gifts of shelter, nutrition, education and a chance to thrive to children who have been deprived of it.
Some of you may know we have had a long standing relationship with Stand by Me, since I worked in one of their children's homes in Beirut in 1995, served for many years on their board, and have continued to stay in touch and support them financially. I was blessed by the work in Lebanon and seeing the happiness of kids coming out of their shells in Beirut and finding a reason to live.
As a Trustee I visited Myanmar, where life as a Christian is often tough but Stand by Me has worked to overcome their isolation, address their poverty and provide education, security and emergency aid packages.
