February on the floor: lifting kids off the ground and into their first bed

Our dream

Sometimes despite all the amazing progress we see in our rescued kids' lives and how well they are doing in their education, when we see the circumstances they return home to, we can still feel like we are just scratching the surface. That's why we've launched February on the floor to help bring a huge change to their home lives. So far 19 amazing people have signed up and we'd love to double that number so we can help even more kids and their families with a new bed.

The challenge

This February we are challenging you to sleep on the floor for a week of your choice. Everyone’s challenge will be different and you can decide how difficult you want to make it. Will you sleep on carpet or a mat, under a blanket or in a sleeping bag, how about a pillow? You can choose how challenging you want to make it once you sign up.  The money you raise from donations can help to buy a bed for one of our kids and their family who spend every night sleeping on the cold, hard floor.

Who can do it?

The challenge is open to any age and any fitness. You simply have to be prepared to have a week of uncomfortable sleep in order that you will be the reason one of the kids in our care will no longer have to. To confirm this challenge is right for you, there is advice in our challenge guide which you will receive once you have signed up below!

A bed will transform life for a family

A bed will not only benefit one of our kids but also their whole family. The beds are larger than a standard single so that the family can share the bed but small enough to fit into their homes. A bed also has multiple uses as it can be used as somewhere to sit during the day, items can be stored underneath and it can be used as a table. Your week of discomfort will give a whole family a good night’s sleep, helping them experience comfort and warmth every night!

What do I need to do?

Signing up is very simple to do and we are here to support you through every step of your challenge.

  • Pick a week in February to sleep on the floor
  • Let us know you are taking on the challenge so we can provide you with a fundraising guide and set you up an online fundraising page and/or send you sponsor forms
  • Ask your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you
  • Make sure you tell as many people as possible about doing the challenge before, during and after, whether on social media, by email or face to face

When you've completed your challenge we'll send you a photo and story of the child and family who has benefited thanks to you taking on the challenge!

The cost of a bed

To help encourage people to sponsor you, they will be able to see on your fundraising page what the different elements will cost:

£4 for a pillow

£9 for sheets

£16 for a blanket

£32 for a mattress

£79 for the bed frame

In total £140 will buy a bed and give a child the opportunity to snuggle into a bed for the first time. It will bring them joy and help them wake up every day rested, refreshed and ready for a day of learning and fun.
