A small school makes a big difference

On a fresh summer day in June 2019, Longstone Primary School took on the massive challenge of collectively running a marathon. From the little legs of the Primary 1’s to the confident strides of the Primary 7’s, everyone played their part in raising money to help provide school meals for our kids in Ethiopia.

What the boys and girls in Longstone Primary School know is that all around the world there are kids just like them; keen to learn, eager to play and hungry for lunch! Through assemblies, lessons and our Mud Hut Tour the pupils heard all about the big dreams our kids have and how we work hard to eliminate the obstacles that get in the way of those dreams.

Every school pupil knows the importance of lunch time and everyone agrees that you can’t learn on an empty stomach and it was this motivation that encouraged the school to lace up their trainers and take on the challenge. With just 24 pupils the distance of 26.2 miles was huge but with staff taking part as well Longstone Primary School crossed the finish line raising an incredible £492 which will provide 2,460 meals for the boys and girls who attend our school in Bekoji, Ethiopia.

Mrs Logan, a teacher at Longstone Primary school said:

“Our pupils have had their eyes opened to the world around them and were excited to have an opportunity to play their part in what Stand by Me do. The fundraiser was a fun way to make a positive difference for the children Stand by Me care for in Ethiopia. We are so grateful for the support of family and friends of Longstone Primary Pupils for helping us to raise such a great sum of money.”

We are so thankful to Longstone Primary School for their enthusiasm and hard work… they’re truly a small school making a big difference!

Stand by... almost there...
