New classrooms bring hope to 120 children

We are delighted to share some wonderful news from the Lois School in northern Myanmar. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, four new classrooms have been completed and classes have already begun. The new classrooms have made it possible for the Lois School to welcome 120 refugee students who have fled their villages as a result of the conflict and would otherwise have had no opportunity to receive an education. Now, they are filled with hope.
Two of our newest students are brother and sister, seven-year-old Sian Vaan and five-year-old Nemboih. When the conflict intensified, the family fled their village to seek safety. They returned to their home to find it burnt to ashes. With nothing left of their village they arrived as refugees near our Lois School. Sian Vaan and Nemboih’s father told us what it means to him for his children to join the school:
“While we wondered what to do with deep sadness, Lois School announced that classrooms for refugees will be provided. I rushed to take an application form and we said, “Jehovah Jireh, the Lord provides”. We not only got admitted but also received all uniforms and books we need through the support of Stand by Me. My children enjoy their school a lot. They don’t even remember that we lost everything and we are refugees. I cherish seeing the joy of my children going to the school. Without Stand by Me, we would not be able to provide education to our children. Our children would not have good life, good future. They would not have joy. I would not have peace.” Father of Sian Vaan and Nemboih.
For Sian Vaan, Nemboih and all 120 new students, the new classrooms represent hope and a place to dream again after a time of great hardship and upheaval. In the midst of ongoing challenges in Myanmar, these new classrooms are a sign of God’s faithfulness and our staff’s determination to meet the urgent needs in their communities.
