The daily necessities to help our kids thrive
At our Emmanuel Care Centre in Colombia, Stand by Me cares for children who, having grown up in poverty, have never been able to afford medical treatment, educational resources or the items they need to live healthily.
Due to the generosity of our supporters, we are able to provide uniforms, books, medical care, food packs, underwear, toys and other daily necessities and treats that help our children dream big, fulfil their potential and know they are loved.
The children at our care centre recently received a bathtime pack and a school pack. The bathtime pack contained a towel, hairbrush, toothpaste, toothbrush and bath soap, essential in helping our children look after themselves. The school pack contained pens, pencils, books and other tools to facilitate our children’s learning, all within a school bag. After receiving her school pack Nuvia commented:
“Receiving the school kit was a gift from God and a joy for me, because my parents did not have the money to buy me school supplies. I am grateful to my sponsors, teachers and Stand by Me, because they are helping me move forward to be a good student and fulfil my dream of being an entrepreneur.”
Our staff also provided girls packs to our older girls, containing sanitary towels, underwear, soap and a treat of chocolate. It is essential to provide these hygiene items to our girls to give them dignity and ensure they don’t miss school whilst having their period.
Each family were given a Hygiene pack which contained hand sanitiser and disposable masks to help families take precautions against Covid.
In a year that has brought even greater financial hardship to families, these packs have not only allowed our children to learn and stay healthy, but they have helped families feel supported and hopeful during a difficult time.
Enabling our kids to improve their hygiene and giving them a sense of dignity is an essential part of Stand by Me’s care. These things are the daily necessities that will help our children fulfil their potential and feel special and loved.
