Flooding in Colombia

Recently, a storm hit Colombia causing terrible flooding. Floods hit our Emmanuel Care Centre and many of our children’s houses. Thankfully everyone is safe, but there was a great deal of damage. 

“I was home with my children when the rain started. Like an avalanche, the flood came. The only thing I thought about was my children.

Covid will not mean an end to education for our children

Due to Covid, many children in Colombia are struggling to access education. The Emmanuel Care Centre homework clubs are allowing students to still access education and use resources such as books, worksheets and computers. In a time when Covid has changed everything, the Care Centre remains a place of education, love and support.

The daily necessities to help our kids thrive

The children at our care centre recently received a bathtime pack and a school pack. Our staff also provided girls packs to our older girls and each family were given a hygiene pack which contained hand sanitiser and disposable masks to help families take precautions against Covid.  

Doctors and dentists visit the care centre

There are no hospitals in Guacamayal, Colombia where we care for over 180 kids at our care centre. Stand by Me invites doctors and dentists to visit the care centre and run clinics for our children and often their relatives too. Recently a team of nine doctors and two dentists visited the care centre.

Laura started to notice a large mass on her foot which caused her pain and was beginning to deform her foot. We stepped in to help and Laura underwent an operation to remove the mass. 

80 parents receive safeguarding training

Our care centre ran a safeguarding training day where 80 parents attended. The training had a focus on how to report a case of abuse to the authorities as often the stigma from sexual abuse means that parents are too scared to report it. Parents are now equipped to challenge child abuse and take action and our staff are as committed as ever to see long-term transformation in the community.

The children at our Emmanuel Care Centre in Colombia were ecstatic with the newest addition to the centre, a computer! They watched eagerly as the screen lit up and they excitedly took it in turns to explore the different programmes that will help in their learning.

Meet Isaac
