The gift of a real home

Meti and her mother were abandoned by her father when Meti was only a little baby. Meti and her mother would wander the streets begging for money and scraps of food. They were homeless, desperately poor and barely surviving. Then they met Stand by Me and everything changed.

We enrolled Meti and her mother onto the Keeping Families Together Programme in Dembi Dollo, Ethiopia. The programme supports our children and their families, through rent, food and self-sufficiency gifts such as chicken and sheep. We know that for some children, the best place for them to live is with their loving families so the programme enables our children to remain living with their families, giving both them and their family dignity, while helping to meet their needs.

Meti and her mother now live in a rented house and receive food daily thanks to the programme. Meti’s mother, with joyful tears said “I never thought me and my child would live in a house and eat food, proudly sitting on the bench, but all things are possible with God.”

Just sitting on a bench in a small house made all the difference in the world for Meti’s mother. It’s the simple things that really make a big difference. For £10 you can give the gift of the Keeping Families Together Programme for one family for one month, through our Alternative Gift Catalogue. To request a catalogue please email hi@standby.me
