In 2022, it gave us great joy to be able to return to work in Kenya after exactly ten years absence. In reality, our heart never left Kenya and we were grateful that God once again opened the door for us to serve 330 children who we love and in a place that is an incredibly important part of Stand by Me’s DNA.
We want every child to have a healthy childhood. But being born into poverty in Kenya means that many can’t afford to access basic healthcare which puts children's lives at risk. This was the case for 10-year-old Kimberly who began experiencing pain while swallowing food due to the inflammation of her tonsils.
Angela was abandoned when she just two months old, left alone on the side of a road. Thankfully she was found, taken to hospital and, shortly after, brought to our Open Arms Children’s Village in Kenya where she received the love and care she needed to grow into a bright and wonderful girl.
Five-year-old Emmanuel sat on his bed with tears in his eyes. At first glance it appeared that these were tears of sadness, but that day he had in fact cried many tears of joy.
