Elizabeth  grew up in Shan State in severe poverty. At 8 years old she had never been to  school and she had contracted Hepatitis B. Now she is part of our Stand by Me  family, she attended school for the first time and we are getting her the  medical attention she needs.

Many of our children in Colombia live in slum like conditions and new school resources are unaffordable for most families. Great excitement spread through our care centre when new schools bags packed with resources were given to each child. 

Cami, the Director of our work in Romania, took the girls of the House of Hope into her hearts and has cared for them as their Mum since they were babies. Three of the girls are now 18. Read her guest blog on why she is bursting with pride for Gabriela. 

Stand by Me’s work in Shan State has developed significantly in recent months, reaching out to local children at a summer school and receiving a permit to begin building the Shan State Homes.

Krupa*, Samir* and little Rachita* are three of the poorest children we had ever come across. We met them in a remote and mountainous area, their hair red because they were malnourished.

All Wilton wanted was to go to school. But he was one hundredth on a waiting list to attend a school in a chicken shed. So we built the Eva Russell School where Wilton grew into a mature young man. 

It was a normal day at Sophia Academy until our caretaker heard the cries of a baby. Following the cries, he was amazed to find a tiny baby wrapped in cloth under the tree beside the gate - abandoned.

Samjhana dreams of becoming a teacher. But she’s from a remote area in Nepal, where the nearest school is hours away. So we are embarking on a new project to bring education there.
