Give a meaningful gift this Christmas
It’s that time of year again when the shops are already bursting with Christmas decorations and gifts. For some this brings excitement and expectation, while others may feel the commercialisation distracts from the real meaning of Christmas. But for our Stand by Me kids, Christmas can’t come soon enough.
From Colombia to Burma, our children are counting down the days to their favourite time of year when they are made to feel extra special and loved. They can’t wait to read the cards from their sponsors and, like all children, they are looking forward to opening gifts. But you won’t find iPhones, laptops and expensive trainers on our kids’ lists. All they want are the simple things; a school bag to help them feel proud on their walk to school, a pair of glasses to see the blackboard and the gift of underwear to give them dignity so they can run and play without embarrassment.
This Christmas I am particularly excited because of four precious children who have recently joined our brand new children’s home in Shan State, Burma. Their new home is a world away from their previous houses where they didn’t have a bed, they didn’t have shoes, and they didn’t dare dream of receiving a gift. For Elizabeth, Na Hmwe, Moses and Isaac, this will be their first Christmas waking up snuggled in a warm bed, their first Christmas slipping on a pair of comfortable shoes. This Christmas they will, for the first time, be able to brush their teeth with a toothbrush, read a story book with their ‘adoptive’ parents James and Esther, and share a nutritious meal with their ‘family’ in a warm, safe home.
Our gift catalogue enables us to purchase gifts for our children that give them a great education, keep them healthy and fill them with joy knowing they are loved, cared for and belong to a family. If you are wondering what meaningful gift to give your loved ones this Christmas, why not buy them a simple but life-changing gift for one of our children around the world and help make this Christmas the best one yet.
